Believing A Bad Report

Has there ever been a time, when you were excited about something, such as trying a new restaurant, a new item, joining a club, or applying for a job or an apartment home?

If so, how many times have you gone online to check it out, only to find horrendous reviews about the place or thing, then after saying “Nope! Never mind!”, you cast the very idea of it far away from you?

Most likely there have been a few times. I, myself am guilty.

On the other hand, can you think of a time where you actually read bad reviews or received bad word of mouth about something, but decided to try it anyway … and you absolutely LOVED it?

I’ve done that also. But that is just an example, of why we can’t make decisions based on anyone’s personal opinions and experiences – sometimes not even our own.

As much as we are unique, and as much as our characteristics differ from person to person, so do our thoughts, opinions and viewpoints.

The Missed Promised Land

Because they believed a bad report from the ten faithless spies, the children of Israel were not permitted to enter into the “land flowing with milk and honey,” that God promised them (Numbers 13 -14).

They thought themselves to be small, and not able to take on the people in that land. They felt that it would be a death sentence for their children.

God had already sworn to give them the land, but they chose to believe the words of a few people with a bad understanding and a fearful heart, rather than believe the Word of God.

As a result, they forfeited something wonderful.

They missed out on the Promised Land.

Have You Been Believing A Bad Report?

It’s easy for us to shame the Israelites for this, however sometimes we may find ourselves in a similar situation.

There may have been a time where you believed God wanted you to have a specific job, or specific type of job, but you felt you weren’t good enough, didn’t have the skills, or maybe someone advised you against it, so you didn’t pursue it.

Or maybe God put in your heart, the desire to go back to college to advance your education, but someone told you how hard it will be given your current situation, with children, money, job, etc, and you decided you just couldn’t do it.

Or it may have been something else, but regardless of the situation, remember it is not in our strength that we accomplish these things, but it is by God’s power and by God’s might.

Trust In The Lord

If we believe that God has spoken a thing, and if He has promised us something, then let’s remember to believe in faith, that He is able to bring it to pass.

Even if it looks impossible, still believe, for we know that our God is able.

So, I encourage you today, whatever the thing may be, don’t believe the opinion of a man, nor lean unto your own understanding, but instead trust in the Lord, and believe that He is able to deliver on His promises.

It has already been promised to you and it is already yours! All you have to do is have enough faith to go up and take it.

Therefore, go up, and get your “land!” And enjoy that milk and honey!

God Bless!

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)
